What's Inside The Box?
What are the components inside of your computer and why do you need them?  Become familiar with component names, purpose, appearance, and specifications by opening up a computer in a safe environment.  Learn to identify relevant specifications for purchasing an appropriate computer.  Discover reasons why some hardware issues occur.

Computer Basics
 Foundation skills for the beginning computer user who wants to become more comfortable with their computer.  Review computer components (input, output devices), practice use of the mouse and keyboard, personalize your desktop, and use standard windows and Internet navigation.

Practical Computing
For the computer user familiar with the basics of their system who wants to learn more about what their computer can do.  Saving files to other media, diagnosing system issues, practical internet navigation (searching, on-line shopping), and tips for use of safety features.

Introduction to Word Processing
This workshop is for those new to using a word processing application.  Skills will be taught using Microsoft Word.  Discover document set up (margins, orientation), formatting text (font, size, colors, alignment), including clip art and images, and saving/reopening your work.

Prerequisites:  familiarity with keyboard and mouse suggested

Practical Word Processing
 This workshop is for those familiar with basic word processing skills and want to learn more about formatting special documents (postcards, labels, brochures), image management, headers/footers, auto shapes, and mail merges.  Microsoft Word will be used.

Introduction to Spreadsheets
This workshop develops foundation skills for those new to spreadsheets including uses, cell formatting, performing calculations, worksheets vs. workbooks.  The Microsoft Excel application will be used.

Practical Spreadsheets
More practice with using spreadsheets for household budgeting, mail merge data bases, and tracking business expenses.  How to use charts and graphs to display worksheet information.  The Microsoft Excel application will be used.

Email Essentials
Explore opportunities for using Email effectively.  This workshop is for those beginning to use an Email application - bring your Email address and password or come a half hour early to register for an Email account with the instructor.  Understand navigation within your Email-box, etiquette, settings, organization, and every day uses.

Intro to PowerPoint
Develop effective presentations using Microsoft Powerpoint.  This workshop is for those familar with a presentation application but would like to learn more about the features it has to offer.  Using templates, changing formats, incorporating images, using effects, and running your Powerpoint show.

Set Up Your Website
Select your preferred website host, submit your domain name registration, layout your website design, and set it up!  This workshop requires some preparation in order for you to complete all of these steps in one workshop.  Suggested website hosts:  Yahoo!, 1and1 Website Builder, and webs.com (free).

Fun With Facebook!
Create your own Facebook page, learn about security settings and filtering, set up and manage your newsfeeds, wall postings, and pictures.  No prior experience with Facebook necessary - creation of your account can be part of this workshop.

Practical Quickbooks
This workshop uses the free version of Quickbooks found on-line.  Navigate efficiently within this application, set up your income and expense tracking, create vendor invoices and checks.  Explore features available within other versions of Quickbooks for a monthly subscription fee.

Digital Photo Management
Work with your photos utilizing standard applications available with most computers (MyPictures folder, Microsoft Picture Manager).  Explore photo management available with Microsoft Word 2007, Facebook Picnik application, Adobe Photoshop, and others.  Students should bring some of their own photos and/or their digital camera and USB cable.
